how to keep your sanity in a commute from ....
I listen to lots of podcasts. My previous 3 hours each way commute led to me becoming addicted and reliant on podcasts and audiobooks to stave off the road rage and intense boredom that came with it. Before this tortuous way of life, I had been very against audiobooks. My bibliophile ways were based on a lifetime love of the written word. I loved seeing the words, feeling the pages, and hearing the crackle of a book’s binding in my hands as I turned them. (My coming to terms with e-books is a story for a different time) Before having a child, I spent my spare time devouring books. I would drag my future husband to the local Barnes and Noble every chance I could, determined to read every book on the shelves — or at least that’s what he claimed. Our weekend breakfast outings were never complete until I scoured the used bookstore next door for any new acquisitions. You get the picture —
I was a hardcore book addict.
Life has a way of changing things. My love of books and stories didn’t change, but the highway patrol tends to frown on operating a motor vehicle while reading. Books were still my foundation for sanity, but I had to find an alternative method to consume them. First came Audio Books — and I have Jim Dale and Neil Gaiman to thank for that initial conversion. But audiobooks can be expensive, especially when my 6-hour-a-day commute could consume a typical book in less than a week. So I started adding Podcasts to the mix. The following are a few of my favorites.
